Who Are You to Judge Another?

James 4: 11 - 12

11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?

Have you ever been tempted to say something bad about someone?  Well, this scripture will help you think twice.  When we speak evil of someone we elevate ourselves to the level of Law Giver. That position belongs to God alone.

When we judge someone this way we assume that we know all there is to know about the situation or that person.  The fact is none of us can truly see someone’s heart or know their true intentions.

Have you ever been looked down upon or talked about for a simple mistake you made when your intentions were pure?  We shouldn’t make the same mistake with others.

So when we are tempted to speak evil of someone, let’s pray for them instead. Wouldn’t you want someone to do the same for you?
